Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 24, 2026
This policy describes what SolveMate (the browser extension and the website at solvemate.net) collects, why, and what happens to it.
What we collect
- Account data — your email address and a hashed password (we never store the password itself). If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, name, and Google account identifier from Google; we never see your Google password.
- Usage data — counts of questions answered and Tutor Mode explanations, used to enforce plan limits, plus a per-device identifier used to limit account sharing. That identifier is a random value the extension generates when it is installed, keeps in its own storage on your computer and sends with each request to solvemate.net, so an account works on one computer at a time. It is not derived from your hardware and is deleted from your computer when you uninstall the extension. With your account we keep the identifier of the computer SolveMate is active on and of your main computer, and a short history (up to 30 entries) of the computers that used or tried to use the account, with the time and the SolveMate version (no IP addresses); these are deleted with your account.
- Question content — when you use the extension on a supported assignment, the question text, its answer choices and, when the page shows one, an excerpt of the reading passage are sent to our server and processed by an AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the answer or explanation. Nothing is sent until you ask for an answer. SolveMate keeps a copy of the reading passage currently open on the page on your computer and sends it to our server only when you ask for an answer. Question content is used to produce your answer and is not retained after the request completes, apart from short-lived server logs that do not include the question text.
- Referral codes — if you arrived through a referral or creator link, that code is stored so the referrer can be credited when you sign up.
- Payment data — payments are processed entirely by Stripe. Your card number never touches our servers. We store only Stripe's customer and subscription identifiers, and contact details you enter at checkout.
- Site usage counts — we count page views and downloads per day in aggregate to see which pages people use. No cookies, no IP addresses and no browser details are stored for this; there is no per-visitor record.
- Site support snapshots (solvemate.net version only) — if you click "Help SolveMate learn this site" after using Tutor on a site we do not support yet, a snapshot of that page's layout (element names and attributes around the question, plus the text you highlighted) is sent to us so we can add support for that site. You see exactly what will be sent and nothing is sent unless you click Send. The solvemate.net version also records the domain name of the site where you used Tutor this page, so we know which sites to support next.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data to anyone.
- We don't run third-party advertising or tracking on the extension or website.
- The extension only reads pages on the assignment sites it supports and on solvemate.net — it does not monitor your general browsing.
- The extension reads your SolveMate login from the solvemate.net page you sign in on, so signing in on the website also signs the extension in. It does not read cookies.
- We use the data above only to provide SolveMate — answering and explaining your questions, running your account, and the emails described below — and for nothing else.
- Where we receive information from Google APIs (Sign in with Google), its use adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Emails we send
Account emails — a welcome email, password resets, receipts and billing notices such as renewal reminders and failed payments. These are part of running your account and are always sent.
Tips and reminders — occasionally, and every few weeks at most, a short email about getting started, how many free questions you have left, or the referral program. Every one of these has an unsubscribe link, and you can also turn them off on your account page. When you unsubscribe we keep your email address on a do-not-email list, including after you delete your account, so that it is never emailed again.
Who we share data with
Only the services needed to run SolveMate: Anthropic (AI processing of question content), Stripe (payments), Resend (sending our emails), Google (only if you use Sign in with Google), and our hosting and database providers (Vercel, Supabase). Each receives only what it needs for its function.
Data retention and deletion
Account data is kept while your account exists. To delete your account and its data, use the Delete my account button on your account page, or send us a message from the address on your account. Deletion is immediate and cancels any subscription; Stripe retains transaction records as required for financial compliance, and an address that unsubscribed from tips and reminders stays on our do-not-email list. Everything the extension stores on your computer — your session, the device identifier and your panel settings — is deleted when you uninstall it from Chrome.
